Whether you want to go near or far, there are a multitude of destinations crying out to be skied, boarded or sledded upon in Luxembourg’s neighbouring countries. Here is a small selection to get you started
Please note times are approximate and may differ slightly depending on where you set off from in Luxembourg.
In Luxembourg (about 1 hours drive from city)
Weiswampach
Weiswampach, in the very north of Luxembourg, has cross country ski routes when there is enough snow. The commune evaluates the routes on a daily basis so always check their website, after 9.30am, before you head off for adventure. All necessary ski equipment can be rented from the tourist office until 5pm (closed for lunch between 12.00-13.00). This is also a great place for sledging – so dress warmly and bring your sledges, sleighs or kitchen trays!

Amneville Snowhall – year round option!
Depending on where you live in Luxembourg, the snowhall will take you anywhere between 30 minutes – 1 hour to travel to. Lessons are available from 4.5 years old, and you can hire everything you need for a small fee in addition to your entry pass. A button lift operates to take you up to the top of the 620m long piste where you can board or ski, and a separate track is available for the luge as well as a separate beginner’s area. There is also a café and restaurant available, and as you would expect it can get extremely busy during the weekends and school holidays.

Eifel Ski Resorts, Germany
Comprising 7 ski resorts with a total of 6 km of slopes you will find the nearest in Pruem, barely over an hour’s drive from Luxembourg. In fact, there are two slopes here, and while they are only .5km and 1.5km long it’s worth it for an easy day out, and a day pass is certainly not going to break the bank. The longest run in this group is 3km in Monschau, still under 2 hours drive from Luxembourg.

Baraque de Fraiture, Belgium
Located in the province of Luxembourg in the Belgian Ardennes, you can enjoy 3 downhill runs of 350, 700 and 1000 metres with illuminated trails at night.
Location: Baraque de Fraiture, Vielsalm, Belgium (1 hour 5 minutes/77.5km)

La Bresse – Hohneck, France
This family-friendly resort is good value for beginner and intermediate skiers with a beginner’s area at the base and a few red runs and a black run. There is a crèche available and ski school too. Swimming, ice skating, horse riding, racquet sports and other alternatives are also available. Plenty of accommodation choices locally, and places to eat.
- Insider tip: Skip the lines by ordering your ski pass in advance to your home. If you’re renting on weekends, best to avoid the rental shop at base station because of the long lines. Instead there are a few rental shops along the way up the mountain. Also you can book lessons (group or private) and crèche in advance.

Les Gets – Morzine, France
Les Gets is part of the Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area and offers pistes suited to all ability levels, Nordic skiing trails, a beginners’ zone, a Wild West winter sports area for children, and numerous high-altitude restaurants. The Les Gets – Morzine lift pass provides you access to 48 ski lifts and 120 kilometers of groomed slopes in the Les Gets – Morzine area.

Aosta Valley, Italy
The Aosta Valley has something for everyone, catering from beginners right through to experienced snow-adventurers – why not add heliskiing to your list of accomplishments while staying here?! Ski schools are available in all of the resorts, as well as other activities including spa and wellness, mountaineering, air sports, and of course enjoying Italian food and wine.

Cervinia, Italy
Cervinia ski resort is one of the most popular resorts, sitting above 2,000m – you’re guaranteed great skiing conditions from November through to May. Cervinia slopes are best suited to beginners & intermediates, there is also some incredible off-piste skiing slopes with more varied terrain. For the evening time, Cervinia has a variety of friendly restaurants which serve fantastic cuisine and a few warm & welcoming bars too!
