14 September 2023

The city of Vianden is beautifully picturesque thanks to its cobblestone narrow streets that lead you to traditional houses, quaint cafes and historical monuments. This charming town is nestled in the north of Luxembourg, along the banks of the Our River, and home to iconic historical monuments and museums, such as Vianden Castle and the Victor Hugo Museum.

Created in partnership with Visit Vianden, here is our full itinerary and everything you need to know before visiting this enchanting town.

Getting There

Whether you’re by car or by public transport, getting to Vianden is fairly straightforward.

We took the train from Luxembourg City to Ettelbruck then hopped on a bus which took us straight to Vianden Gare! Make sure you keep an eye on bus & train times as they are typically once an hour so you can plan your day accordingly 🙂 If you are driving, be warned that parking spots can be limited and that you do most likely have to pay. Ticket machines can be found close by each parking lot!

Vianden Tourist Information Center

Before heading into Vianden, be sure to stop off at Vianden Tourist Offices to get all the information on the best attractions and activities in the region. You can ask them about the best sights, inquire about opening times and get fully equipped with maps and brochures to guide you through this beautiful city.

Vianden Dam aka Faces of the Dam

In collaboration with the Société Electrique de l’Our and based on the initiative of the ViArt absl Art Association. As a fusion of art and architecture, the Vianden dam has been transformed into a canvas! As a collaborative effort of Kärcher and internationally acclaimed artist, Klaus Dauven, the Faces of the dam is a tribute to the workers who laboured from 1950 to 1964 constructing the Vianden dam.

This beautiful homage is an impactful celebration of the history and the people who were part of building the dam. The Faces of the Dam can also be seen from the tops of Vianden Castle as well as the picturesque Chairlift – where you can see it in all its glory from the skies!

Address: Vianden Dam, L-9419 Vianden

Known for its idyllic location, The Bildchen Chapel can be found along several hiking trails. The Chapel has been recognised as a cultural monument since 2019, the “Bildchen” statue was originally located in a rock face that was almost impossible to visit but in 1848, a patch was created into the rock face and the foundation stones were laid so the chapel could be home to the miraculous statue.
