Timio is an incredible Greek restaurant in Luxembourg using only the best ingredients and home-cooking style. We spoke with the Co-Founder and CEO, Vangelis Andrikopoulos, to learn more about his story and the company as a whole!
Andrikopoulos grew up noticing the difference between local, fresh food and the mass produced food you’d find in the store. He noticed better flavors, smells and tastes from local farms of the villages where he grew up.
Cooking has always been a part of his life. Andrikopoulos says “souvlaki pita wraps from the local stores of Athens couldn’t compare to the homemade souvlakis that we’d make on every Sunday family lunch. We used the best ingredients that our grandparents would send us from the village and most importantly we’d make everything at home. This combination of real ingredients and same-day home-cooking is unbeatable. Tasty food does not have to be an unhealthy guilty pleasure.”
Andrikopoulos knew that it was hard to find this all over the world so he thought of Timio to bring locally produced food to everyone.
Timio actually started during the pandemic. Andrikopoulos says “The second wave of the pandemic found us in Luxembourg. Everyone warned us against starting Timio because the restaurant industry has been hit the hardest but we couldn’t wait to share our concept with people. Thankfully, Luxembourg has a lot of local and sustainable farms. We tried all of them until we found the right ones. Finally we got electric vehicles to offer green delivery, and on the 12th of August 2020 Timio opened its doors.”
The name Timio means honest. It is a Greek phrase representing the genuine and originality of something. Andrikopoulos “wanted to offer people the same honest fresh and locally produced food that I’ve experienced growing up.”
Timio keeps this honesty through the transparency of their open kitchen and philosophy. They treat their food, suppliers, team and community with respect and compassion.
Andrikopoulos says “My role is to make sure that Timio is a safe place where our people can grow, improve their lives and be the best version of themselves. My priorities are to provide the necessary tools, safety and support to our team and delight our customers.”
Timio is all about adapting authentic Greek flavors to make it your own. Customers are able to choose a different combination of ingredients to make the perfect meal for them.
Andrikopoulos explains that “most people order pita wraps with chicken or grandpa’s secret, veggies, feta or halloumi and tzatziki. We’ve noticed that people try different sauces and combinations to discover new flavors and Timio experiences!”
The Timio team would like everyone to know that they truly appreciate the support of their customers as they wouldn’t have been able to get through COVID without them!
