CinEast Festival Luxembourg 2020- Get your Tickets!

by Gracie Limauro

The CinEast festival is back, and City Savvy Luxembourg is once again a proud media partner!

From October 8th to October 25th you can enjoy more than 45 feature films and 20 short films from 21 different countries, a photographic exhibition, 4 musical events, 4 ciné-debates and encounters with approx. 20 guests. There will be English subtitles, so you have no reason not to grab your tickets today!

The theme of this year’s festival is Planting the Future. Our planet is at a global crossroads, and this provides a reflection on the unsustainability of our relationship to the environment, and how our social and economic models are unfit to keep the planet clean.

The 2020 festival opens at 7pm on October 8th with a dark Hungarian comedy / romance Comrade Drakulich. Directed by Márk Bodzsár and set in Hungary in the 70s, this film follows the young couple Maria (Lili Walters) and Laci (Ervin Nagy) as they work for Hungarian secret police and hunt vampires. Comrade Fábián (Zsolt Nagy) is a Hungarian hero of the Cuban revolution and adored by all. But when he comes home to take part in a Vietnamese blood drive, something is off: he looks like a 30 year old. Suspicious, Maria escorts him while jealous Laci stalks the two. What is Comrade Fábián’s secret? Can Maria and Laci prove that Bela Lugosi, the star of the old Dracula movies, isn’t the only Hungarian vampire?

This film will have English subtitles and is presented as part of this year’s Focus on Hungary. Part of the spotlight on Hungarian cinema and culture will be feature length films, shorts, and even a Hungarian band performing at the festival opening party!

Another interesting detail is that for the first time in CinEast history, the country of Belarus will be featured! (3 films in total) This brings the number of Central and Eastern European countries featured at the festival up to 21. Wow!
