Day trip to Trier, Germany, Itinerary

Certain places in Germany allow you to enter for no more than 24 hours without a Covid test and the beautiful Trier, Germany is one of these places! Trier is a quick hour train ride from Luxembourg City and there is so much to explore and do there that is all Covid friendly. Here is the perfect itinerary for your day!

Take the train from Luxembourg City to Trier HBF for only 5 Euros round trip!

Porta Nirga-

From the train station take a quick 10 minute walk to Porta Nigra. This is the beautiful Roman city gates that lead you to the center square of the city.

Saint Peter’s Cathedral-

From the Porta Nigra it is only a 7 minute walk to Saint Peter’s Cathedral. The inside of the church is beautiful and it is surrounded by one of the many small squares in Trier perfect for people watching or enjoying gelato!

Town Square-

Of course the town square is a must see. There is so much to explore and see, it is beautiful! It is only a 2 minute from the Cathedral but starts right after the Porta Nigra so you can explore the square all day. Sometimes there is an outdoor market or performers, there is so much going on!

Square and Fountain-

Right around the corner and a 4 minute walk away is a beautiful fountain with another little town square. This is a perfect place to eat lunch (takeaway of course), people watch and continue exploring.

Catholic Parish-

There is another beautiful church a 4 minute walk from the fountain. This Catholic Parish has beautiful stain glass windows that shine the colors perfectly on a sunny day.

Electoral Palace-

In a quick 3 min minute you will arrive at the Electoral Palace. Not only is the Palace beautiful but it also has a large garden with a pond and more places to sit and have a nice picnic.

Trier Amphitheater-

A little further, a 14 minute walk away is the Trier Amphitheater. Sadly the Amphitheater is currently closed due to Corona, however, you can still see some from outside the gates and it is worth the walk to see more parts of Trier!
