Rambling Routes of Luxembourg – Insenborn

by Laurent Jacquemart

Take a scenic trek on the southern shore of the Upper Sûre Lake, near Insenborn. This ramble has stunning lake side views, coupled with farmland, a beach, a Calgary cross and views over the Upper Sûre National Park.

Start at the car park near the lake in Insenborn (lux. Ënsber). Notice that the site can be quite crowded during the summer season. Walk along the lakeshore with sights over the water and the popular recreation areas of Insenborn, Liefrange (lux. Léifreg) and Lultzhausen (lux. Lëlz) with its pontoon bridge, linking the village with the northern shore. Leave the valley on a long and densely wooded slope leading you to the plateau covered in farmland. Pass the Calvary cross called “Kampkräiz“. Range the cornfields with flowering poppies and enjoy the panoramic views over the Upper Sûre National Park, created in 1999 to protect the waters of the lake, the country’s major drinking water source. Stroll past the “Neihaff” farm with its small white chapel. You might even be interested in exploring the “Burfelt” forest discovery centre, some metres off the walking route, but worth the detour. To get back to the starting point, first cross the shady forest, then wander along the artificial beach called “Fuussefeld“.
