Despite the construction nearby, NYX is a respite from it all. Complete with a wine tasting room, takeaway counter, and of course the main restaurant, NYX offers something for every diner. Before visiting, we made a reservation through their online booking service, however during lunch on weekdays, a reservation may not be overtly necessary if you are a small group.Â
The first thing we noticed when entering through the main restaurant entrance was the airiness of the building. Complete with high ceilings and a minimalistic design, the restaurant is elegant with a hint of industrial vibes. There is an abundance of seating near the restaurant’s floor to ceiling windows, allowing for a bright dining experience during the day.
After being seated, we selected a glass of a smooth and fruity red wine. Their wine list is composed of many Greek wines, as well as some French and Italian bottles. Bottles start around 20 euros, with some reaching over 100 euros.Â
We ordered from their lunch menu which offers two different options for the main dish. These options change each day and are updated weekly. We chose the lamb confit with sour cream and rice. It was served with a delicious soup du jour and a salad. The soup was a light and creamy butternut squash, especially perfect for the rainy day. After grazing on a salad topped with an ever-so-slightly citrus dressing, the main dish arrived. Visually, it was very appealing and the portion size was large. The lamb was cooked perfectly, set on top of a buttery bed of rice. It was pleasant, but very simple. If you are in the mood for a more complex combination of flavours, we recommend reviewing the options on the Ă la carte menu as well. To end the meal, they have an excellent selection of tarts, cheesecake, and more.
If you are in a rush, there is a section of NYX that offers sandwich, salad, pastry, and beverage takeaways for excellent prices (5 euro wraps and sandwiches, 10 euro salads, and 3 euro pastries). We didn’t try them, but they looked delicious.
In regards to service, the waiters were very attentive and knowledgeable. After finishing the meal, the bill is collected at the reception desk instead of at the table. The pricing is decent for the experience. Our lunch and glass of wine was 22 euros. However, it could easily get more expensive.Â
Overall, we enjoyed the restaurant for its atmosphere and service. The food was secondary, as the meal was very simple- albeit with fresh and pleasant flavours. We are fairly certain ordering Ă la carte would enhance the dining experience even more. Overall, it is difficult to tell if the prepared lunch menu for the day is going to be hit or miss, but we will definitely return to try the a la carte menu.
The restaurant also features an outdoor patio, perfect for the upcoming Spring days. Unfortunately, the area is occupied by an abundance of construction, so if you are looking for a restaurant with spectacular views, we recommend re-visiting in a few months.
It’s great to see new and exciting restaurants popping up outside of Luxembourg City. We were a bit disappointed to see NYX is closed on Saturday and Sunday, but we hope they eventually expand their hours in time!
