Whether we get a proper summer or a, well, Luxembourgish one, there’s lots to put a smile on your face this season, from open-air cinema to musical classics to ‘Summer in the City’ to the Schueberfouer! There is absolutely something for everyone!

Summer in the City

Between June and September  Luxembourg celebrates ‘Summer in the City‘ with free concerts, guided tours, and much, much, more. Every day’s a party! A series of open air concerts in the city centre plus street theatre, open air cinema, art exhibitions and children’s activities.

Our top pick is the Kinnekswiss loves open air Festival, which will be making a return for the first time since 2019.  A series of open air concerts in the Municipal park, that have featured previous guests such as Bryn Terful and ElÄ«na GaranÄŤa. Be sure not to miss it July 9th-10th! We can’t wait to spread out picnic blanket out with friends and enjoy this incredible open air concert!

Back to the Books

Rotondes will host 24 Graffiti artists from Luxembourg, France, Germany and Belgium who qualified for the competition through Instagram. The goal: compete to create the best graffiti art, and win 600 euros. It is a really cool competition to watch the artists show off their creativity and unique styles.

Rock um Knuelder

Urban rock festival that’s had over 15,000 people visiting each year. Great music is there to be enjoyed across the city centre. Another free night of fun!

Blues ‘n Jazz Rallye

89 bands perform blues and jazz on more than a dozen open air and indoor venues in the Grund and Clausen. Hop from bar to bar, enjoying a night of brilliant free jazzy music all the way. One of the most fun nights out and a great event to bring visitors to.

Streeta(rt)nimation

26 international companies bring 125 free shows to the streets of the city centre. Meet stilt walkers, acrobats, jugglers, dancers, comedians and jesters. Hit the pavements and join in the fun.

Festival de Wiltz

67 years and counting, The Wiltz festival is a joy for music and theatre lovers alike. The castle at Wiltz provides a dreamy backdrop to sumptuous stage performances. There’s even a retractable roof if the weather doesn’t co-operate! Boasting the best talent, this year features national and international artists of a variety of genres, from nouveau cirque, opera and musical to jazz, indie electronic, klezmer and chanson. And in addition to the tasty cultural events on the menu, the festival’s food village will provide a range of culinary delicacies to delight your palate.

Nuit des Merveilles

If weird and wonderful is your thing, then make sure you head to Bettembourg for the Nuit des Merveilles. This bizarre event welcomes professional street artists from tightrope walkers to circus poets, stilt-walkers, puppeteers, mimics, musicians, hat designers and much more. The program includes performances from the wacky to the poetic, with a range of events for young and old.

Philharmonie Fräiraim Festival

Featuring three days worth of concerts, the Place de l’Europe and Philharmonie will be home to hundreds of up and coming artists along with well-established artists. Any music fan will find something to enjoy with the incredible range of genres on display.

Gaymat Festival and Pride Week

Luxembourg is a very open and welcoming society for the LBGT community and this festival in Esch is an open demonstration of that fact. With queer movie nights, a parade and various parties, there’s lots of fun to be had.

Blues Express

Another music extravaganza, this time in Differdange and Lasauvage; more than 40 concerts take place on 11 stages. Don’t miss this free open-air blues-music festival featuring artists from the all over the world – with 20,000 people attending in previous years, you’ll be in good company! Besides the many concerts, visitors also have the opportunity to visit different art exhibitions as well as two museums. Check here for the shuttle bus schedule.

Remich Street Food Festival

Enjoy plenty of different food options with friends and family at this incredible food festival. Sure to have dishes from all over the world, the choices will be limitless and certainly tasty.

Open Air Cinema in Echternach

Where better to enjoy a film than by the lake in Echternach? Normally held over a period of 4 days under the open sky with catering, cool drinks and couches to sit back and relax on. This year’s schedule hasn’t been announced yet, but you can check the website for updatesAlways a summer highlight!

Casemates de la PĂ©trusse Rocks Coming to Life Tour

Ok not exactly a festival, but definitely a must for the summer. Finally reopened with new state of the art scenography, animations, and light installations will enhance the experience more than ever before. Take a deep history lesson and explore one of Luxembourg’s preserved fortifications.

Kanner in the City

One for the whole family, the city centre is transformed into an enormous play area with over 50 workshops for 4-14 year olds. Lots of games to test skills and creativity as well as providing a great day out. Best of all, it’s free!

Vianden Medieval Festival

A fantastic medieval romp in the beautiful surroundings of Vianden Castle. Knight camps, jousting, fire shows, birds of prey and a large medieval market. Great fun for adults and kids. A free shuttle will be available between 12pm to 7pm on weekends.

E-Lake Festival

An open-air festival in a picturesque setting by Echternach lake. Live concerts, DJ sets and a 10,000 capacity dance floor. Free entrance means you’d be mad to miss it.

Schueberfouer

We’ve saved the best for last! This has to be one of CSL MAG’s favourite festivals and one you absolutely must not miss, nor can you with an enormous ferris wheel taking over the Glacis, together with the excited screams of fair goers and the smell of all that goodness wafting around the city.
