05 March 2024

Take Back the Night, an event promoting the awareness of violence against women and young girls will be held on March 21, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in Luxembourg City.

LUX MWN Magazine, in partnership with ING Luxembourg, is co-hosting the event aiming to ignite change within the community through a symbolic march and an evening of solidarity and empowerment.

After a march through Luxembourg City, participants will gather at Glacis car park to hear speeches from community leaders, including the Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, Yuriko Backes, hear music from DJ Miss Sappho, enjoy food trucks, and explore information tables from local organizations.

“At its core, ‘Take Back the Night’ is a rallying cry for change,” says Amanda Roberts, Founder of LUX WMN. “It’s a call to action for all members of society to stand in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence and to work towards a future where safety and respect are the birthright of every woman.”

In Luxembourg, the statistics speak for themselves: the term “Femicide,” the act of deliberately killing a woman motivated by sex-based hate, is not recognized as a crime in its own right. Additionally, 20% of women aged 16 to 74 have been affected by acts of physical, sexual, or psychological violence — and these are just the known victims in Luxembourg. Taking back the night is a way for women, young girls, and allies to spread the word about gender-based violence in Luxembourg and across the world.
