Valentine’s Day: Alternative Dates

08 February 2022

Valentine’s Day, as cheesy as it is, is a great reminder to let the people you love know how you feel. Although we love eating out in Luxembourg, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day without going to the restaurant. Here are 5 alternative ways for couples or friends to celebrate the occasion!

Pick 1- A Romantic Walk/Stay in Nature

Let’s face it many of us have gotten in the habit of staying home and watching Netflix. A Covid-friendly weekend away or even a day trip can be a good way to spend time with your significant other (or friends). If you want to stay local, you can rent a treetop cabin at the animal park in Esch. It’s perfect for spending the weekend together in nature enjoying each other’s company. Another idea is to take a day trip to Luxembourg’s beautiful Little Switzerland in the Mullerthal Region to hike, shop or visit museums.

Pick 2- Takeout Dinner for 2

While you may be weary of eating out for Valentine’s Day this year, many restaurants are providing a way for you to have the same experience in the comfort of your own home. Order ahead at Vida for the tastiest sushi and tacos topped with fresh veggies. If you and your partner are looking for a buzz, you can also order their delicious Tipsy Bulbs (aka cocktails) to go.

If you are looking for more of a classic, Mama Shelter has an incredible takeout menu crafted by renowned chef Jean-Edern Hurstel that includes their Mediterranean pizzas and appetizers. You can also order bottles of wine or champagne for the occasion to go.

CSL hint: Use the code MAMA10 for 10% off your takeout order!

Pick 3- Movie Night

Many of us have not been out to see a movie in a theatre for a long time. However, that can’t stop you from having a movie date! Netflix has a plethora of romantic movies for couples such as Malcom and Marie a steamy romance story, or Midnight in Paris a lighthearted romcom. Grab your favorite takeout and a box of chocolates to complete your night! You can also check out our February watchlist for more options.

Pick 4- Virtual Yoga Class

If you want to work off all the chocolate you’re going to eat this Valentine’s Day, Yoga Loft is hosting live yoga classes for different levels of experience. Whether you are single and need some self-love or want to join as a couple, these live classes are the perfect way to relax on Valentine’s Day.

Pick 5- Make a Romantic Meal

If you would like to actually make your own meal instead of ordering in and pretending you did, prepare a meal for your significant other or cook together to create a special date night! There are so many great recipes out there, Anne’s Kitchen is great source of local inspiration!
